Satya S. Tripathi, a seasoned development economist and lawyer, serves as the Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the New York Office of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
With over 35 years of experience, Mr. Tripathi has held various pivotal roles within the United Nations since 1998, focusing on sustainable development, human rights, democratic governance, and legal affairs across Europe, Asia, and Africa. Notably, he was the Director and Executive Head of the UN REDD+ Coordination in Indonesia and the UN Recovery Coordinator for the significant post-tsunami recovery efforts in Aceh and Nias.
His early career included positions such as Chair of the Committees on Laws and Treaties during the UN-mediated Cyprus unification talks and roles with the World Agroforestry Centre and the World Economic Forum’s Global Advisory Council on Forests. Mr. Tripathi is an alumnus of Berhampur University, India, holding both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Commerce, as well as in Law.
